A’s put Fremont park plans on hold

This morning while I was working at the Fitness Club the Alameda Journal was delivered to the front desk. I got bored so I decided to read the newspaper. I literally jumped up for joy and screamed in happiness. I caused the members to come check on me but I told them I was alright. I was just happy when I saw the headlines in the Alameda Journal. I am still upset about this move.

A’s put Fremont park plans on hold-Alameda Journal

After the A’s earlier this week put the brakes on its move to Fremont, the city announced that it had halted work on the environmental impact report for the team’s stadium project, but still would gather public comments about what should be considered in the report.

Several stadium opponents, however, interpreted that as a trick to reduce the number of comments while continuing with plans to build a stadium on the edge of Fremont’s Warm Springs district.

“We want to be as straightforward about this as we possibly can be,” Planning Director Jeff Schwob said.

Assuming the A’s wouldn’t object, Fremont officials planned to send out notices to public agencies late Thursday canceling the comment period, which was to expire March 12.

“We stated to the A’s that that is our understanding of the situation,” Schwob said.

The A’s decided to hold off on the environmental review for its stadium plans amid opposition from residents and several major businesses.

If the team decides to continue with the preferred stadium site adjacent to a future BART station at Warm Springs and South Grimmer boulevards, the 30-day comment period will have to start from scratch, Schwob said.
